The Russian National Geographic Traveler Award recently announced Tanzania as the ‘Best Exotic Destination of 2018’ after 263,000 online readers voted for the ‘Soul of Africa’ as a favored country for tourism. The Ambassador of Tanzania to Russia, His Excellency Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Simon Mumwi received the award on behalf of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, at a ceremony held in Moscow in November 2018.
Tanzania clearly stood out against its East African competitors and it is not for the first time that such accolades have been bestowed upon the nation. In 2011, Zanzibar was voted as the Best Beach Tourist Destination in Africa and was awarded the Star Travel Award. In 2017, Tanzania won the Nat Geo Award as the second-best exotic destination and in 2018, this unique destination shines in brilliance as the distinguished winner.
The number of Russian tourists visiting Tanzania was close to 4,021 in 2012 and the figure has doubled with a record of 10,060 tourists now visiting this favored exotic destination of the world.
